Date: August 11 - 15, 2025 Modality: In-Person Location: Dearcroft Montessori Trafalgar Crossing Campus (297 Oak Walk Dr, Oakville, ON L6H 3R6) Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (1-hr break between 12:00-1:00) Inversion: $600 CAD Hours: 30 hours Audience: Ideal for Upper Elementary Montessori guides and assistants working with children ages 9–12 who wish to reconnect with the distinct needs of this developmental stage and reignite their work with purpose and joy. ✨ Course Overview: This 5-day, in-person refresher supports Upper Elementary Montessori guides in reflecting deeply on the evolution of the second plane child. Participants will explore how to meet the growing intellectual, social, and moral capacities of children aged 9–12 through purposeful adult preparation, interdisciplinary thinking, and meaningful work that honours the child’s role as a contributor to the world. 📅 Proposed Outline Day 1 – Who Is the Upper Elementary Child Now? A look at the evolving second plane mind—critical thinkers, abstract reasoners, peer-oriented learners, and budding moral philosophers. What shifts from early elementary, and what must the adult become? Day 2 – Cosmic Threads & the Power of Big Ideas Reclaim the power of Cosmic Education as a unifying framework that ignites imagination and responsibility. We’ll revisit the Great Stories and how to link all subjects to a sense of interconnection and stewardship. Day 3 – Guiding the Independent Researcher Explore strategies to foster independence in thought, collaboration, time management, and research. We'll revisit how to support projects that matter—without overstepping or under-supporting. Day 4 – Curriculum Deep Dive: Interdisciplinary, Inquiry-Based Learning Review core content areas (language & literacy, math, history, geography, sciences, the arts) through the lens of integration and real-world application. Emphasis on follow-up work and adolescent readiness. Day 5 – The Role of the Adult & Preparedness for Adolescence Refine your vision of the Upper Elementary guide as mentor, coach, and moral compass. We’ll close with reflection, intention-setting, and preparing children for the transition to adolescence—with grace and trust. *Content of the course may vary based on participants' interests. Please note: A minimum of 8 participants is required for this course to run. In the event the course does not meet the minimum enrollment, all registered participants will receive a full refund of their registration fee.
